by Virginia Greco

Announced at the end of January, the award was now conferred to the recipients in a ceremony held in Cadiz. Prof. Laura Lechuga is the head of the ICN2 NanoBiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications Group.

On May 23 the Social Council of the University of Cadiz (UCA) celebrated the sixth edition of the 2021 Social Engagement Award, a recognition for companies and Individuals who collaborate with the University in its work in social responsibility. Prof. Laura Lechuga Gómez, head of the ICN2 NanoBiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications Group, was bestowed this award for the relevance and social impact of the research she leads.

The president of the Social Council of the UCA, Federico Linares, together with the Rector of the UCA, Prof. Francisco Piniella, accompanied by the General Secretary of Universities of the Andalusian Regional Government, Dr Rosa María Ríos, presided over the ceremony, which took place in Cádiz. This award, as Federico Linares stated, strengthens "the role of the Social Council of the University of Cadiz as a bridge between the university and society, also allowing the university institution to be aware of the problems of the surrounding environment and, in turn, the latter to perceive the needs of the university and the potential of the programmes it develops."
