ICN2 and Wuhan University Sign Agreement to Boost Scientific Collaboration

by Chema Arcos

This new alliance aims to promote joint research initiatives, academic training and staff mobility between the two institutions, as well as to explore new funding opportunities.

On 12 May, ICN2 and Wuhan University (China) signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen ties in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. This partnership paves the way for joint research projects, training programmes, staff exchanges and the sharing of scientific knowledge. It also includes plans to identify co-funding opportunities and seed funding programmes to support innovative new projects.

The agreement builds on existing collaborations between researchers at the two institutions, including ICREA Prof. Daniel Maspoch, leader of the ICN2 Supramolecular Nanochemistry and Materials Group, and Prof. Hexiang Deng from Wuhan University. To mark the launch of this new collaborative opportunity, Prof. Deng recently visited ICN2, where he gave a seminar on his research into metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The presentation focused on using these chemical structures for carbon neutralisation strategies, including the capture of atmospheric CO₂, to help mitigate climate change.

At ICN2, we believe this agreement offers valuable opportunities to foster new scientific synergies, strengthen our research programmes and raise the international profile of our centre.
