The research Group led by CSIC Prof Daniel Ruiz at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) publishes in Advanced Functional Materials a universal encapsulation method to integrate those compounds into solid materials keeping their useful properties unaltered under the title 'Liquid-Filled Valence Tautomeric Microcapsules: A Solid Material with Solution-Like Behavior'.

The collaboration between FAPESP and CERCA was possible thanks to the organizational role of CSIC Prof Laura M. Lechuga, Group Leader at ICN2. The meeting explored possible collaborations with the State of Sao Paulo.

After visiting the ICN2, Prof Konstantin Novoselov offered on May the 27th a talk at the UAB Science Faculty in the framework of the Manuel Cardona Conferences. Over 300 people attended the event and shared a very interesting presentation by the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics winner.

A new series of Open Knowledge conferences started yesterday, on May the 14th, with a talk by Prof Stephan Roche. The topic of the third edition of the Program is ‘Fundamentals of Electronic Excitations and Spin Dynamics in Dirac Matter’ and the talks will take place at the ICN2 Seminar Hall during May and June 2015.

Dr Paolo Sessi, from University of Wuerzburg, offered a talk at the ICN2 about using scanning probe spectroscopies to visualize spin-orbit driven effects at surfaces and the obtained results. He was invited by Dr Aitor Mugarza, Group Leader of the Atomic Manipulation and Spectroscopy Group.

ICN2 Electron Microscopy Division, led by Dr Belén Ballesteros, has participated in a research which studies the interaction of carbon nanotubes with an in vitro blood-brain barrier model and a mouse brain in vivo. The results of the study have been published in Biomaterials.

On April 17th, Prof Elvira Fortunato, from CENIMAT, visited the ICN2 and offered a talk about the great potential that metal oxides have in the future of electronics and to develop new and disruptive applications. The speaker was introduced by ICN2 Group Leader and ICREA Prof Arben Merkoci who remarked the highlights of her career.
