ICREA Research Prof. Arben Merkoci, Group Leader at ICN2 and this year’s Director of the Meeting, welcomed the assistants and underlined an exciting program. Prof. Salvador Alegret and CSIC Prof. Laura M. Lechuga opened the Conference which will summarize the latest achievements in the field of sensors and biosensors.

Coordinated from Ghent University (Belgium), this European project combines nanophotonic biosensors and novel selective antibodies in a lab-on-chip platform to diagnose Tuberculosis through urine. CSIC Researcher Prof. Laura M. Lechuga leads the ICN2 Group involved in the project, which is willing to go beyond a mere laboratory prototype whith field trials in Africa and India during the final part of the three-year project.

A work recently published in Advanced Materials, led by ICMAB-CSIC and participated by Dr Belén Ballesteros, Leader of the ICN2 Electron Microscopy Division, reports a new method to grow single-layered inorganic nanotubes. Researchers used the inner cavities of carbon nanotubes as hosting templates.

Researchers from the ICN2’s Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group, led by the ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoci, published in Advanced Functional Materials an important starting point for the design and fabrication of flexible, organic biosensing devices by inkjet printing.

The Director of Research and Innovation Directorate, DG Research & Innovation offered today a talk at the Centro Nacional de Microelectrónica (CNM-CSIC) about Key Enabling Technolohies (KETs) and the future of European Research. Her visit to the Campus UAB, invited by CSIC, included a tour through ICMAB-CSIC and ICN2.
